Our 2011-2012 Research Fellows are

Lina Khatib. Research Fellow: Human Rights Policy in Canada.

Lina Khatib is a Policy Advisor with the Ministry of Education for the Ontario government. Her interests lie in immigration policy, education policy and topics pertaining to ethnic and religious minorities in Canada.

Prior to her current role, she was an associate editor for the Queen’s Policy Review, research analyst for the Mayor’s Task Force for Poverty Reduction in Kingston and an intern for a Member of Parliament in Ottawa. She speaks English, French and Arabic and enjoys engaging in open-ended dialogue with a variety of intra-Canadian communities. She holds a B.A in Political Science from York University and an MPA from the School of Policy Studies, Queen’s University.

Jabeen Aslam. Research Fellow: Muslim Youth and Political Participation.

Jabeen Aslam has over ten years experience working in the non-profit sector in the areas of program development, research, fundraising and marketing. She holds a B.A in International Relations/Peace and
Conflict Studies, University of Toronto and an M.A from the Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education at OISE, University of Toronto. Her Master’s thesis explored Muslim Youth Activism post 911,
with a focus on women. Jabeen’s diverse interests include feminist anti-racism in education, spirituality and education, health equity, and Muslim youth activism.
